The Jiangxia Field Experimental Base of the State Key Laboratory of Precision Blasting is located at Nutai Mountain, Jinxing Village, Zhengdian Subdistrict, Jiangxia District. It serves as a critical support platform and a distinctive hallmark of the laboratory's construction and operation. The base has a total area of approximately 800 mu (about 53.3 hectares), including 270 mu of former industrial and mining land and a 100-mu deep-water experimental area dedicated to scientific experiments, with 405 mu of forest land serving as a safety buffer zone.
Supported by major national and Hubei provincial research projects, the laboratory has conducted a series of field tests at the base, including Dynamic Response Characteristics of a ×× Ship Hull Girder Under Close-in Underwater Explosion Conditions; Full-Scale Prototype Test of Demolition Blasting for an Urban Viaduct; the NHDJ Project; Model Tests on Dynamic Response Characteristics of Subway Tunnel Segments, Large Bridges, and Buildings Under Explosive Loading; Experimental Study on Dynamic Response Mechanisms of Buried Pipelines Under Collapse Impact Loading; and Full-Scale Test of a Ten-Thousand-Detonator-Scale Initiation Network Using Novel Electronic Detonators. These tests have provided critical support for national defense , national strategies, and public safety.
The base has also established the world’s largest facility for large-scale seismic fault simulation, designed to tackle seismic fault challenges in mega-infrastructure and to support major national projects such as the CZ Railway. The base is currently equipped to accommodate 50 people for group instruction and 30 people for academic exchange.
Going forward, the base will focus on supporting China’s “Three Deep” (deep Earth, deep space, and deep ocean) strategy and breaking through bottleneck technologies in tunnel excavation. It will develop large-scale research facilities, including the Multi-Field Coupling Experimental and Testing System for Blasting Effects and the Tunnel Blasting Experimental Simulation Platform, thereby helping the laboratory consolidate its leading position in the field of blasting and contribute to building a national strategic scientific and technological force.
