The State Key Laboratory of Precision Blasting (hereinafter referred to as the Laboratory) successfully passed the reorganization of state key laboratories by the Ministry of Science and Technology in December 2024. The Laboratory was established based on the former Hubei Provincial-Ministerial Co-Constructed State Key Laboratory of Precision Blasting at Jianghan University, through integration and restructuring by Jianghan University and Hohai University. It is China's first state key laboratory focusing on applied basic research in the theory and technology of engineering blasting for civil applications.
The Laboratory consistently adheres to the Four Orientations principle, guided by major scientific and technological needs and strategic objectives of the nation and Hubei Province. It concentrates on three key research directions: precise analysis of blasting effects, precise regulation of blasting outcomes, and precise control of blasting safety. The Laboratory is committed to building an innovation hub and high-level talent cultivation center, leading the development of international blasting science and technology, and establishing itself as a strategic scientific force in blasting engineering.
The Laboratory currently has 221 permanent staff members, including 2 full-time academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 4 Changjiang Scholars, 3 recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and more than 10 national-level young talents such as Young Top-notch Talents of the National Ten Thousand Talents Plan, Young Changjiang Scholars, and Excellent Young Scientists. Additionally, there are 36 provincial and ministerial-level talents. This forms a strong technical team with discipline leaders at the core, academic backbone researchers as the main body, supported by auxiliary and administrative personnel.
The Laboratory possesses approximately 15,000 square meters of indoor laboratory space and an 800-acre outdoor test base. It houses China's first intelligent computing center in the blasting industry, equipped with over 1,000 sets of instruments and equipment, with an original value exceeding 200 million yuan.
In recent three years, focusing on the needs of national major engineering projects and addressing bottleneck issues in international cutting-edge blasting science and technology, the Laboratory has fully utilized its advantages in interdisciplinary integration to achieve original innovations in blasting theory and technology, providing scientific and technological support for major strategic projects. The permanent researchers at the Laboratory have been approved for over 220 research projects, including National Key R&D Program projects and National Natural Science Foundation projects, among which are 14 National Key R&D Program projects, 2 973 Program projects, 12 major and key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, and more than 40 major engineering and technological projects. The Laboratory has undertaken research projects with funding totaling 360 million yuan and major technical service projects with funding close to 2 billion yuan, contributing to the implementation of national major strategies and the practice of major engineering projects.
